Career Summary
Scott Dunham is an experienced senior technical manager, most recently as Technical Services Manager for Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations and WMC’s Mt Keith Operation. Scott’s experience includes operational and managerial roles in silver/lead/zinc, copper, tin, gold and nickel in a wide variety of geological environments and mining methods. With a second degree in Information Technology, Scott brings a highly systematic approach to mine planning, mining geology, strategic management and improving business performance.
Scott’s mining career started with Mt Isa Mines as a mine geologist in the lead/zinc/sliver and then copper operations in 1987. He subsequently joined Renison Goldfield Consolidated (RGC) in 1989 at Renison Bell in Tasmania holding the positions of Mine Geologist, Resource Geologist and Senior Mine Geologist. In 1994, he was promoted to Manager Geology and Technical Services at the Henty Gold Mine where he was responsible for mining and exploration geology, mine surveying, long term planning and budget modelling.
In 1998, Scott joined Australian Mining Consultants (AMC) in Perth as Senior Resource Geologist based in Perth. While with AMC Scott was involved in a number of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for a wide range of commodities.
At the beginning of 2000, he left AMC to join WMC Resources as the Geology Manager at Leinster Nickel Operation and later the Planning and Development Manager at Mt Keith. While with WMC, Scott continued to build on his technical and management experience being responsible for teams of between 20 and 30 professionals plus large drilling and assaying contracts. Scott routinely relieved as General Manager at Leinster, a role which took up to 30% of his time while on site.
In mid-2004, Scott joined Newcrest as Manager Technical Services for Cadia Valley Operations. In this role Scott was accountable for all resource and reserve related activities on site and acted as an internal consult for the Newcrest group. Scott managed the concept and pre-feasibility studies for the Ridgeway Deeps expansion and was heavily involved in the Cadia East open pit study work. Scott and his team developed integrated province-scale production plans for the next 30 years of operations in the Cadia District.
Scott joined QG as a Director in September 2006. He brings a new suite of technical and managerial skills to the company allowing QG to increase its scope to include more of the mining value chain.
